Audio Systems: no power to car stereo, clutch plate, auto parts stores

Question
We have a Subaru (1988 GL Wagon, non-turbo, no a/c, but everything else is power operated) with a Subaru am/fm/cassette stereo (factory model).  Recently we had a new engine installed as well as a battery, clutch plate, brakes, etc.  Since that installation we have had no power to our stereo.  We can't figure out what could've gotten disconnected.  We've checked the fuses and they are fine.  Ironically our cruise control does not engage either but that's a separate matter.  The mechanic has worked on our vehicle since we bought it brand new.  It's a small shop but he is not an electrical system expert.  We miss the cruise control and the stereo tremendously--the silence is "deafening."  Could you give us a clue as to what might've gotten disconnected on our stereo?  We realize it's an oldie, but my wife loves her "Subie"  Thanks

Answer
Kevin,
The stereo will have two power feeds for it, one 12 volts at all times and one switched with the key on. You may want to purchase a repair manual for your vehicle. You can purchase a repair manual for this vehicle at most larger auto parts stores. This manual will have all the wiring diagrams for the vehicle in it. You will be able to track down the stereo power problem and perhaps the cruise control malfunction.
