Audio Systems: Bad faceplate?, aiwa cdc, ribbon cable

Question
I have had an Aiwa CDC-X437 for more than a year now and it had always worked fine.  The other morning however when I reattached the faceplate it wouldn't turn on.  I checked all the fuses and they are good.  I also pressed the reset button that is behind the faceplate and can hear the CD eject mechanism moving, so this tells me it is getting power.  I also tried to clean all the connections the best I could, but still nothing.  Is it common for faceplates to randomly die like this?  Is there something else I could try?

Thanks

Answer
Paul,
If this stereo has a movable face plate, the problem may be with the ribbon cable that connects the front panel to the main board. If no ribbon cable is used in this model the power supply for the face plate may be faulty. You may want to use a 12 volt test lamp and make sure that the memory wire still has 12 volts on it.
