Audio Systems: 90 ford f150 stock stereo, four nails, stock stereo

Question
I need to remove, repair, and reinstall my stock stereo for a 90 Ford F150. First, how do I remove the faceplate that incloses the heater controls and radio? Can I use the 16 penny nail trick to remove this stereo? Then, the radio seems to be getting power, I can sometimes hear it playing very weakly and then it statics and goes off. When I bought it last month it worked but had no volume and was stuck on one am station. Any sugestions? Thanx~Beth

Answer
Beth,
You can use four nails to release the lock springs to remove the stereo. The trim around the stereo may be held in place with screws or it may snap/pull away from the dash. The sound problem may be due to a fault with the amps inside the head unit or with the external amp if one is used. Once you have the stereo out of the dash, if you give me the complete model number I can look over the service info to see exactly what system your vehicle has in it.
