Audio Systems: 1994 Nissan 300ZX Bose Stereo/Intermittent, speaker stereo system, nissan 300zx

Question
Dear Tom,

I have a 1994 Nissan 300ZX, with a factory Clarion/Bose cassette/radio 4-speaker stereo system.  About 1 year ago an intermittent operation problem started.  1-2 minutes after I turn on the vehicle and the stereo, the latter will often turn off with a clicking sound from under the dash (no sound from any of the speakers, although the head-unit display is still on).  It will come back on about 1-15 minutes later (it is my impression that this time interval may be correlated with the weather ?), and will play on from that time on.

It is almost as if some central switch (driven by a humidity sensor perhaps?) turns off the 12 V power to all four amplifiers that are mounted with the speakers.

Any idea what is going on?

Thank you very much!!

Best regards,

Dimitri

Answer
Dimitri,
The clicking is most likely the relay that sends 12 volts to the speaker amp units. The clicking may be due to a defective connection in the relay control area. A bad connection may have to warm up before it works to operate the speaker amp relay.
