Audio Systems: Chevy Trailblazer aftermarket stereo, 2002 chevy trailblazer, chevy trailblazer

Question
I have a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer with a factory stereo/cd player. Can I install an aftermarket stereo/cd/tape deck? Someone told me the factory radios are programmed into the car's electronics/ignition system in a way that prevents changing radios. Any particular advice on model to choose and installation tips would be appreciated. (I have located an outfit online that sells models and an install kit they say will fit a trailblazer).  Thanks, Ron

Answer
Ron,
On some newer factory stereos the key and door chime circuits are inside the stereo. You can bypass this by using a special adapter that has the chime circuits in it. You may want to contact your local Chevy dealer and ask the service dept to run the VIN to see what type of stereo your vehicle has in it. Also contact Crutchfield.com and inquire about the stereos that will work in your vehicle.
