Audio Systems: Pontiac Grand Prix Factory Installed Radio, pontiac grand prix, factory radio

Question
I have a 2001 Grand Prix and the rear driver side speaker does not work unless the interior of the car gets warm.  It works for a while once warm and then once the AC cools the car down the speaker stops working.  Do you think it is a short in the stereo (factory radio), or could it be the wiring to the speaker has a break and the heat causes it to expand and make contact?

Answer
Mike,
If the sound system is a premium system it may use an external amp. The external amp may have to warm up before the left rear speaker will work. If the sound system does not use an external amp, the problem may be inside the stereo itself. Possibly a defective solder connection. Note, the speaker may also have a defective connection that will work after the inside of the vehicle warms up. I do see this problem one or two times a year.
