Audio Systems: Honda Accord Radio Acting up, honda accord 1990, honda accord

I have a Honda Accord 1990 LX. The radio has been pretty good, but lately the station has gone low. Basically it plays normal volume but than out of nowhere it switches to very low, even when I turn the volume high I can barely hear the radio. I turn it off and than back on and nothing. Sometimes it returns to normal. Is the wires disconnecting from the radio to the speakers? Is it the transformers to the radio? The situation is the same when I play a tape.

The problem sounds like an audio output fault. Possibly the amps in the stereo are muting for some reason or the same goes for an external amp if one is used. If possible can you pull the stereo out of the dash and give me the complete model number of the stereo, and if you see an external amp in the trunk area give me the model number of it also.
