Audio Systems: No Power car stereo, battery connection, power car

Question
Hi,

My car stereo has no light,
I check the power it has 12 volts input,
one 12 volts has power, I don't know where
it got the supply, one wire is ground,
and the other 12 volts is connected directly to the battery with a fuse and pass to another small cicuit with another 2 fuse, mark 5amp and .5 amps with coil and then goes 3 wires to the car stereo.
Please help can I directly supply the 12 volts supply to the stereo, I'm afraid I might burn it.

Please advise thnak you,
Bobby

Answer

No you cannot, Bobby.

Any wire (that has power running along it) MUST be fused for saftey reasons, whether it is 'key switched' or 'directly' hooked to the battery. 'Directly to the battery' is basically a misnomer to the untrained electrician, but does indicate that a wire goes through NO switches, ect, on its' way to the fused battery connection.

No matter the situation, a powerwire must still be fused :)

*Try using a test light if you are not sure whether or not the wire has +12v.   ;)
If the deck is getting power (and the fuse on the deck is good), it will need to be repaired or (most likely) replaced.

Good luck, I hope this helps you out and thanks for the question.

Sincerely,
Jerry Mael
