Audio Systems: Car Radio/Stereo Repair, land rover discovery, alpine radio

I have a 1999 Land Rover Discovery II with Alpine radio. Battery removed so code #2661 should be entered. What is procedure? Pressing the 2 button, followed by 6, another 6, and 1 only causes a zero (O) to be displayed. Dealer can't figure out, and says it is defect in radio that only came to light afeter battery was detached. Any help?

Use the station memory buttons labeled 1 through 6.
Start with button number one and press it until the number 2 is displayed. do the same with button number two, press it until the second number is displayed. continue with the third button for the third number and button four for the last number. Follow the procedure for setting the code by pressing the button that the manual tells you to press. If you don't have the owners book for the stereo the dealer should be able to look up the correct steps.
