Audio Systems: Power for 1998 Chrysler Sebring Radio, chrysler sebring coupe, fm stereo radio

Question
Hello Tom,

I have a 1998 Chrysler Sebring Coupe. All of a sudden the radio stopped working as if a fuse had blown however all seemed perfectly okay. The clock does light up and a CD can be ejected. But nothing happens when the power on button is pressed. This did happen once before and then it started working again. I'm not so lucky this time.

the radio, as described in the owners manual is:
AM Stereo & FM Stereo Radio with Graphic Equalizer, Cassette Tape Player and CD Player.

First time I've ever seem an AM Stereo radio but I copied that description right from the manual.

I wonder whether there is a fusible link or similar type device that is not related to the normal fuses. I should mention that I have no clue as to how to remove the radio but do consider myself reasonably able when it comes to such things. A little guidance would go a long way.

With many thanks in advance!

Tom

Answer
Tom,
The problem may be due to a defective solder connection on the main circuit board. I see quite a few newer stereos with faulty solder connections. If you take a close up look at the dash you may see a few screws that hold the trim around the stereo, onto the dash. On some vehicles the trim will snap/pull away from the dash. If you are not sure you could call your local Dodge-Chrysler dealer and ask someone in the service dept.
