Audio Systems: 1997 Honda Accord Special Edition Audio Probelm, single cd player, stereo unit

We have a 1997 Accord SE that has the AM-FM single CD player. It appears that some type of security system is also connected to the audio system as there is a flashing light for the security system on the Audio unit.  Our CD player is giving us an error code "PE-0" and refusing to read any CD's. This error code isn't even listed in our Honda manual. Radio works fine. If the whole unit needs to be replaced, does it have to be a Honda system due to some security system thing also or can we have just any basic CD system installed?  Thanks!

I don't have a repair book for this make and model vehicle. You may want to contact your local Honda dealer and ask about the flashing light on the stereo unit. As far as the PE-O it is due to a fault with the laser pick up assembly in the CD player assembly.
