Audio Systems: stereo sound goes out, pioneer cd player, speaker wires

Question
I have a 1997 dodge Laramie 4x4 that has a pioneer cd player in it.  The sound plays fine when down low but if I turn it up then the sound completely cuts off as if the stereo turned itself off(but it doesnt).  I have to turn off the stereo and then turn it back on and turn down the volume for it to work......whats wrong with it?

Ladonna,
make sure that all the speakers are connected correctly and that none of the speaker wires are grounded to the vehicles chassis. Also make sure that the proper speakers are connected and that nothing new was added.
