I have a 2002 f-150 extended cab and I would like to add some subs to my system, but I have to have a functional rear seat for my kids. The only box I have found was in crutchfield and its a bit expensive for my taste. I have the skills to build a box but, I am not sure what the proper size needs to be for the subs. I would like to have two 12"s. Do I have enough room? If not how big would it have to be for 10"s? I have the ability and resources to make one from fiberglass if it could buy me enough room.
Thanks in advance for your time!

You would build the box, based on the sub you buy. Each sub will require different amounts of airspace. Also the size depends on the type of music you listen too & what kind of bass you want. I like 10's as a good medium for all types of music. I would figure out how much airspace you have to work with and then buy subs based off that. Do you know how to figure out the airspace?

No I do not know how to figure the airspace. Whats the formula?

Answer
air space is figured by Length x Width X Height / 1728
so lets say you measure 23"L by 12" W x 8" H
23 x 12 x 8 = 2208 / 1728 = 1.28 cubit feet of airspace
then to figure out your box, subtract the thickness of your wood from your measurements to give you internal airspace.
