Question - Gary, the crate 1600, is a <a  style='text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 3px double;' href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=32&k=guitar%20amp" onmouseover="window.status='guitar amp'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">guitar amp</a>, it makes no other noise but loud buzz, no output with <a  style='text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 3px double;' href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=32&k=guitar" onmouseover="window.status='guitar'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">guitar</a> hooked up. could you tell me a little more about testing?

Is there anywhere I can get a wiring schematic for my GX 1600? It started buzzing and now that is all it will do. I would like to fix it myself, I can make a car run, not sure about a amp. Is this a common problem? What is the hourly rate for work like this?
Answer -
you might be able to get a schematic through the manufacturer, but most times they only sell them to service centers. your best option is contacting a local <a  style='text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 3px double;' href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=32&k=car%20audio" onmouseover="window.status='<a  style='text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 3px double;' href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=32&k=car%20audio" onmouseover="window.status='car audio'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">car audio</a>'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">car audio</a> servicer and see if they can get it for you, or most probably they will offer to fix/ replace it for you. service normally runs about $60 hourly. i wish you'd been more specific, if this is a <a  style='text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 3px double;' href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=32&k=guitar%20amp" onmouseover="window.status='guitar amp'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">guitar amp</a>, you can get the literature and parts through st. louis music, and buzzing is a simple repair. lots of things it could be, but with an occilloscope, its easy to troubleshoot <a  style='text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 3px double;' href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=32&k=power%20supply" onmouseover="window.status='<a  style='text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 3px double;' href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=32&k=power%20supply" onmouseover="window.status='power supply'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">power supply</a>'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">power supply</a> sections and output sections. don't forget to look closely at solder connections around input jacks.

not enough space to go in depth about testing, but i think it's your <a  style='text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 3px double;' href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=32&k=output%20devices" onmouseover="window.status='output devices'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">output devices</a> that are bad. without seeing it, i dont know if its solid state or tube outputs. if tube or solid state, replace all outputs, not just bad one/s. that will keep output circuit balanced, meaning all devices working equally. it would have been helpful to provide wattage ratings and wether tube outs or not, or a hybrid, part tube sections, part transistors......g

Answer
i would still replace the output devices, they're not expensive through st. louis music. they are the large transistors mounted to large aluminum heat sink. all you need is numbers off them, i dont have the number for st. louis, but it's easy to get, dial 18005551212 and ask for st.louis music, then push appropriate number for crate, and go from there. hope you have good soldering skills, and stop by radio shack and get a small tube of heat sink compound or sometimes called heat sink grease to help with heat transfer from trannies to heat sink. thats all i can help you with in this forum....good luck.....g...
