Audio Systems: no sound from speakers, chevy caviler, premium system

I have a 2001 chevy caviler.  The radio is factory installed. The other day a loud noise came from my speakers and now I have no sound.  The radio turns on and the Cd player plays but there is no music coming from the speakers at all.  What happened and how do I fix it?

If the sound system in your vehicle is a premium system with an external amp, the amp may have failed. With the complete model number I could look up the service info and know exactly what type of sound system your vehicle has in it.
