Audio Systems: Low Volume, bose wave radio, filter capacitor

Question
I have a Bose Wave Radio Model AWRI-1W,bought in 1993.  With The Volume control AS high as it can go,you can just barely hear sound from the speakers. Can you tell me where the problem is.I have some experance working on electronic equipment.

Answer
John,
The audio output IC may be defective or it may be muted for some reason. The mute line to the audio output IC will sometimes go low(muted) if the mute line filter capacitor fails/shorts out. If you open the stereo and locate the audio output IC you may be able to look up a pin out of the IC on the internet to see what pin the mute line uses to mute the output.
