Audio Systems: Car Amp/Speakers, factory speakers, 6x9 speakers

Question
My brother in law (the person that installed my speakers and amp)told me that the amp is taking up all the power from my CD receiver.  So basically all the power is going into my rear speakers and there is hardly any power for my front speakers.  What would you suggest I do?  I'm thinking about buying a Sub and connecting my amp (Boss Audio, 2 Channel, 600watts) to the sub instead of the rear 6x9s that it is connected to now.  Then I would just have my CD receiver power all 4 of my speakers.  Do you think this would have my system sounding good?  I still have 2 factory speakers in the front, and like I said I have new Pioneer 350watt 6x9s in the back.  My CD receiver is a Boss Audio, 4x50 watt system.

I'm just kind of upset because I have pretty much nothing coming from my front speakers anymore, even if I move the fader totally to the front.  Granted, I bought the amp because I wanted to have more sound coming from my back speakers since they are more powerful and new, but there is absolutely no power for my front speakers.  I think my system would sound better if I also had sound output coming from my front speakers.  What would you suggest I do?

Thanks a lot for your help,

Brian Recker

I recently replaced the rear factory speakers in my car with Pioneer 350watt 6x9 speakers.  I also had a 600 watt amp hooked up to them to power them.  However, now there is hardly any sound at all coming from my two front factory speakers, even when I adjust the fader to be completely in the front speakers.  The CD player is hooked up to them but there is very little sound coming from them.  Do you know why this is?  Is it because the CD player is sending all it's power to the amp that powers my rear 6x9 speakers?  Thanks for the help.

sounds like your new speakers are a lot more efficient than the factory speakers, in other words the new speakers put out more sound per watt than originals. only thing you can do is also replace front speakers. look at the specs for the new ones and check the one called spl. it will be shown as xxdb at i watt. make sure any other speakers is close to that and you will have more consistant sound levels out of each speaker. hope this helps,g..............

Answer
if you are using an external amp for the rear speakers how do you expect the front to keep up? ALL speakers muat be at same level. use amp for front speakers also. i thought this was common knowledge. think of the speakers as lightbulbs; how you gonna see 10 watt bulbs with 100 watt bulbs in the same area? youre not unless they are all at 100 watts
