Answer
Dear Mike,

Generally, when you get a message like that, you've tripped the thermal protection circuits. That happens when the receiver has been driven beyond its capacity, overheats, and shuts itself off to prevent the heat from doing some real damage. There are a number of reasons that the receiver will react like that: the speakers are miswired, causing a short circuit; the speakers are of high impedance (4 ohms or less) and are being played too loudly; you're driving A and B speakers at the same time--are the most common.

You should take the unit in to a qualified repair technician to have the circuits reset and the cause diagnosed. Be sure that you tell the technician what kinds of speakers and how many you're using with the receiver.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,

Kevin
