Audio Systems: tv no picture but sound, power surges, tv model

i have a rca 52 home theatre tv model#p52927 my freind gave it to me, he had a power surge at his house and ever since the tv has sound but no picture any suggestions. it seems easier to fix this 1 instead of paying 1500-2000 for a new big scrren

Power surges have two qualities: (1) you never know what the whole impact is and (2) all the possibilities are bad. The surge could have fused all the wiring inside the picture tube, blown the tube completely, or simply have popped or disconnected the wiring. There's no way to tell without having it taken apart and diagnosed by a qualified repair technician.

Depending on the extent of the damage, it may or may not be reparable. It will cost a bit to have it checked. At least you'll know what you're facing.
