Audio Systems: expedition factory radio, amp unit, car stereos

Question
The bass portion of the radio installed in a 2001 expedition with factory amplifier and woofer in back has gone out.  I have checked the woofer with 9 volt battery and I get distortion from the speaker.  I believe I have checked all the fuses unless there is one on the amplifier near the rear speaker I can't get to without removing the housing.  The vehicle has rear seat controls for the radio as well.  I removed the cables from the battery, another site suggested that in a FAQ section, with out any change.  I'm at a loss.  Replace the radio, amplifier, etc?  Thanks for any suggestions.

Answer
gary,
In most cases the problem is due to leaky or defective capacitors in the amp unit. You may want to trace the wire from the woofer down to the amp. Once you locate the amp you could remove it and take the amp to a repair shop that works on car stereos and amps to have it checked out.
