Audio Systems: Display lights for Pioneer KE-83ZBM, pioneer car stereo, mini lamps

Question
Dear Mr. Clark,

I have a Pioneer Model KE-83ZBM in a 1990 BMW 735i. The display lights in the unit do not work.

I have removed the radio and disassembled it to the point where I have located 3 lights or LEDs behind the dark display panel. Can you tell me whether these are LEDs or lights and how I can obtain them?

You can see a picture of the unit at http://www.carstereohelp.com/bmw.htm . It is the third unit down labeled "86 - 92 BMW / Pioneer Car Stereo".

I am considering to buy a similar style (not exact) on e-bay and canabalizing it for the lights, but would prefer to get new bulbs.

Thank you,

Answer
Russell,
You may be able to purchase the micro mini lamps from radio Shack. The lamps are 12 volt 50-80ma, don't go to high above this ma rating or the lamps will burn too hot and this may damage the display. Any good electronic supply outlet should also have these mini lamps.
