Audio Systems: Chrysler 6-Disc CD Changer Problem, chrysler sebring jxi, chrysler sebring

Question
Hello,

I own a 1997 Chrysler Sebring JXI Convertable with a factory
Infinity stereo system, including a factory 6-disc CD changer.
This CD changer is completely controled through the factory
stereo system.

The problem is, a few weeks ago upon attempting to use the
changer, the changer would not eject the CD cartrige when the
eject button, the only button on the actual changer, was pushed.
I then tried to control the changer through the stereo, and the
stereo system would not recognize that the changer was there.
Usually the stereo would switch via the "sources" button from
FM, to AM, and also to CD. Currently the stereo does not switch
to CD. The changer makes no noises when attempting to use the
unit and there are no visable problems. In an attempt to fix the
problem I removed the stereo and checked all connections. From
this, it appears that all the connections are properly entacted.

There have been no other incidents or problems with the car
that could have caused this issue.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank
you so much.

Happy New Year.

Best, CJ

Answer
CJ,
On many CD changers if something happens to the changer the system controller will (basically)stop talking/communicating with the changer. The problem may be due to one or possibly two CDs being loaded at the same time which caused the changer to jam up. If you are mechanically inclined you may be able to disassemble the changer to manually back out the jammed CD's.
