Audio Systems: Speaker volume on right side speakers, auto salvage yards, buick roadmaster

I recently purchased a 1993 Buick Roadmaster station wagon. It appears to have the original factory radio/casette player with 4 speakers. The right side speakers do not produce the same volume as the left side. When I switch to the right side speakers the sound disappears but will come back if I turn the volume way up. The same thing happens on all speakers when I insert a tape. Need to turn the volume way up to get it to play. I removed the right side speakers and they work fine with another radio. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Chris

Answer -
Chris,
The cause of the low sound problem may be due to a defective amp or feedback capacitors for the right side. A weak electronic volume control IC can also cause low sound on one side.

Tom:

Thanks for the quick reply. Sounds like the radio has to come out in any event. Can you recommend a repair station, or is it better to replace the whole thing?

Thanks again,

Chris

Answer
Chris,
You may want to shop around at your local auto salvage yards to see if they have a replacemant stereo. If you can't find a replacemant, please contact me by direct Email for info about having your stereo repaired.
