Audio Systems: Sub enclosure formulas..., rms power, sprirt

Question
Hi,I was just wondering if you could give me some advice on the BASIC formula for box design.I do have some programs but they're not really that help full in the real world. Thanks for your time.

Answer

Sorry, Dave!

After over 25 years of experience, there is NO basic formula for enlosure design (sealed, ported or otherwise).
This is why people pay the big bucks to pros. I can tell you 1st hand that the very applications you have are likely very effective and powerful in the right hands.

A CAD program can help lots, but they are differ in how easily they do their job.
That is, compililing, using or editing the databases to suit your needs and the gear you have at hand. Of course, if the speakers you are using are not in the database of the CAD program, their 'Thiel/Small parameters' must be determined and loaded into the database before you can do much good with the CAD apps. For most users (and speakers), this Thiel/Small data can be attained from the manufacturers' web page or their install literature.

The Bottom Line.
It seems you are after a design that will work for you, so in the sprirt of getting you handled in that respect:

The only thing I can tell you at this point, is to let me know how large the box can be, what type of design you are wanting, the exact speaker model #, the amount of RMS power per driver you plan to use and the total number of speakers that will be in the enclosure.

Hopefully, I can locate the pertinent info and get you an effective reply.

Sincerely,
Jerry Mael
