Audio Systems: Bose CD player problem, 2000 mazda 626, mazda dealer

Question
Tom: My daughter needs your advice for 2000 Mazda 626 with the Bose audio system. The CD player recently started skipping and now won't play at all. The radio and tape player operate great. Local audio shops want to sell her new systems and Mazda dealer suggested not to even bring it in, we couldn't afford to fix it. I read about cleaning the lens on one of your earlier posts. Can we clean the lens? How?
Thank you for any help you can offer.

Answer
Charles,
Cleaning the laser lens in this stereo does require that you remove the stereo from the dash and then disassemble the unit to gain access to the CD player assembly. With the CD player unit out of the main chassis you can try using a Qtip dampened with rubbing alcohol and gently rub the lens to clean it. If you are not sure, please contact me by direct Email for more details about repairing your CD stereo.
