Audio Systems: Acceleration causes stereo volumn change, jeep grand cherokee laredo, jeep grand cherokee

Question
I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L 4WD. At idle the stereo "pops" as if one spark plug was creating interference, but at speeds above idle, the popping goes away and is replaced by something even odder. The stereo works fine at any speed so long as the accelerator is not depressed further. At 60MPH on level road the sound is fine, but going uphill the sound is reduced to about half volumn as soon as the accelerator is depressed. When I let off the accelerator the sound returns to normal. This same condition occurs at any speed. I have searched for some mechanical reason, such as accelerator or cable rubbing against a wiring harness, but I haven't found anything. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Answer
John,
On some models of stereos they use an automatic volume control circuit that will adjust the volume louder or softer depending on the speed of the vehicle. Most of these AVC circuits are used in stereos that are installed in convertable top vehicles. You may want to contact your local dealer and ask if the stereo in your vehicle has this AVC circuit. The problem may also be due to electrical interference possibly from the alternator?
