Audio Systems: console stereo..., dc converters, radio portion

Question
i am obtaining an old console stereo (the one your grandma had with the wooden cabinet)
what i would like to do is install a car CD deck in it, assuming a CD will play vertically.....if it will, can i wire the radio portion (running on 110v) to the same speakers as the Cd player will be using (running on 12vdc from a converter) ?

CDs will play horizontally, vertically, even upside-down.

Be careful wedding 12v circuitry to 110/120v house current. Radio Shack has a number of AC/DC converters that you should investigate. But the short answer is, yes, you can run them both to the same speakers. This is because you'll be running them from one amplifier. (You will, won't you?) So, you'll be up-converting the 12vdc signal to be compatible with the rest. Cool.
