Audio Systems: Radio Codes, mitsubishi eclipse, factory cd

Question
I have a factory CD stereo in a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse. (I don't know if these numbers will help...but they were on the top of the deck... MR490088  DZ-2U07WYTD 34W0211)

I replaced the battery and needed to re-enter the code.  I have acquired the 4 digit code from the dealership by giving my VIN and serial number off the deck.

Now I seem to be having a hard time entering it.  (I've already been through the entering it 3 times...the thing goes to OFF....I figured out to re-set it, I have to leave it with the key turned ON for an hour...then it goes back to CODE)

I was wondering if there is a special procedure that I'm supposed to follow.

I've called the dealership numerous times...and they just keep telling me to play around with it.  But there does not seem to be much more I can try.  Nothing happens when I hit any of the buttons before entering the code....I use the 1,2,3,4 buttons to bring up the code...to enter it, I hit the CD button and it just says ERR1. (or ERR2 or ERR3 depending on how many times I've tried to enter it.)

I've tried leaving my key in the ON position while entering the code...in the ACC position...and with the car running.

Do you have any tips or suggestions that I might try.  I've been tuneless for about 2 months now and it's becoming a nuissance.  Anything would be a help....Thanks.  Megan

Answer
Megan,
You should try calling another dealer and ask them how to enter the code correctly. I don't have a repair book for your vehicle so I can't tell you how to input the code. You may want to try entering the code numbers that the dealer gave you and then press and hold the CD button for at least 5 seconds. Turn the key to on when attempting to enter the access code.
