Audio Systems: Infinity system noise, chrysler town and country, infinity sound

Question
We have a 2000 Chrysler Town and Country with the Infinity sound system.  The left front speaker has an intermittent problem - it will suddenly start to emit a loud noise that sounds like a feedback hum.  The volume of the hum (loud!!) does not change with the volume of the stereo, it is constant, and it is only in this one speaker.  This hum will not be present for a week at a time, and then suddenly it will always be there constantly for another week.  I just put in a new upgraded head unit, which sounded great, but suddenly, the noise is back, again in only the one one speaker.  I pulled the speaker from the door, and there is no apparent problem with wires grounding out.

Answer
John,
The Infinity sound system may be a premium system that uses an external power amplifier mounted somewhere in the vehicle. On many of these premium systems when a speaker makes noises similar to what you are hearing it is due to failing capacitors in the amplifier! You may want to have a repair shop check out your amp.
