Audio Systems: Delco Car Stereo Repair, car stereo repair, auto salvage yards

Question
First off, thank you for taking my question!  I have a Delco model system (model 16232141) in my 99 Chevy Cavalier.  My system has started fading out in the left side speakers (fuzzy in front, dead in rear), but the speakers seem to be fine after being checked with an ohm/volt meter.  The "back lights" have also gone out on the stereo, and the buttons no longer light up.  I assume that due to its age, the sound problems are coming from the head system.  However, with the Cavalier and Sunfire, the front dash panel will leave a huge hole if I put in a standard size radio (Delco is a tall unit), and I don't even know what the watt output is on my current system to try to match it with a new system.  With all that said, I guess that my question is would it be possible to fix my current stereo (lights, connections, etc), or should I get a new system?  If replacement is the better option, could you recommend a system of equal watt output?  Thanks.

Answer
Jessie,
It would be less costly to have the stereo repaired than installing an after market stereo. If you want to replace the stereo you may want to look around at several auto salvage yards to try to locate the same stereo in a wrecked vehicle.
