Audio Systems: Chrysler Infinity Factory Radio Problem, infinity factory, tact switches

Question
Tom, first I am impressed with your knowledge reading the posts here.
I have a 1996 Chrysler with a factory Infinity Radio/CD/Equlalizer that developed a button pushing problem. Seems that all (or most of the buttons anyway) except for the manual tune, do not react correctly when pushed. Example, AM/FM select does not work, but if I toggle Seek just righ..it will change bands. The presets may, or may not..at some radio gremlin perogative, may work...but most of the time...they dont. The radio/CD aound great..just getting the buttons to cooperate is the problem. Is there one actuater stuck that may be causing it to be so possibly? Thanks for your time and your reply.

Answer
Mike,
These Infinity stereos sound great, however they have a little quirk in them. It seems that the rubber overlays that contact the printed circuit board to operate that button will become intermittent over time and you will have the problem that you are having. Depending on which vender made the control board, it may be rubber overlays or small tact switches instead and these can become intermittent also. If you are handy with electronics equipment, you could dissassemble the front panel of the stereo and try cleaning or replacing the switches.
