Audio Systems: Car Audio Intermittent power, frame chassis, speaker wires

Question
Hi there!
I recently purchased a used car stereo for my Ford, as well as a ford-to-iso lead. Once fitted the stereo only powered up fully for certian periods of time, turning off and on without warning, once turned off it could not be switched on again. However, there was a certain amount of power coming on at all times, as the flashing red light on the unit remains on at all times. I would appreciate your help! regards, Mike. Car is 1995 Ford Escort, UK model.

Answer
Michael,
Double check all your connections, power and grounds, plus make sure that none of the speaker output leads are grounded to the vehicles frame/chassis. Improper installation/connections to the speaker wires can cause the amps in the stereo to over heat and cause a shutdown.
