I have a 2002 Dodge Neon 4 door sedan. Does it need a wiring harness and an antenna adapter to install an after market audio/cd player? The current factory stereo has a cassestte player. I don't own any cassettes and don't want to either! I would like to install a new AM/FM stereo CD player, but have gotten some different answers in regards to installing one. I have found a couple I like, and with a mounting kit, they'll work fine, but some places have told me I'll need a wiring harness and an antenna adapter, where others have said I don't. Now I'm just confused. Any help you can give me would be great. Thanks!

Jimmi,
The easy way to connect your new stereo to the wires in the dash of your neon is to use the adapter. With the adapter all you have to do is to connect the wires as shown on the adapter to the correct wires from the new stereo. You will also need the antenna adapter to connect the Neon antenna cable/plug into your new stereo that uses a standard size antenna jack.

Thanks Tom,

I'm a little confused again though. When you mention adapter, and it being the easiest way to install it, which adapter are you talking about exactly. I mentioned the antenna adapter, and you mentioned that as well, however, I'm not too sure which other adapter there is? Oh...maybe you're talking about the wiring harness adapter? Thanks...this doesn't come naturally to me being a girl I guess lol :)

Answer
Jimmi,
I should have said, wiring harness adapter. With this harness adapter all you have to do is to plug the factory connector in the dash into the adapter harness. This adapter has wire pig tails that are labeled for what they are used for! power-ground and speaker connections. match up the power wires and the speaker wires( left, right, front rear)Plug the antenna adapter into your new stereo and then plug the antenna into the antenna adapter. Before you do the above operations, you should install the new stereo into the plastic mounting assembly by following the instructions provided.
