Audio Systems: 1989 Corvette Delco Bose radio, corvette delco bose, climate control unit

Question
Does this radio have some kind of theft device built in. Every time I turn on the radio I get a very loud (I would guess 1-2K HZ) tone. It is not adjustable by the volume control but if the volume is turned up, I can hear the radio but the tone makes it unbearable.

I just had a new climate control module installed which they tell me was placed in the dash. The problem started about a month later. I've replaced a few batteries in this car since new but never had the problem before.

Could the problem be in the amps or the radio?

Thank you.

Answer
Bill,
The problem is with the amps located at each speaker (on most models, some have a commom amp unit)These amp units are a replaceable item, however many people replace the leaky capacitors on the amp boards that are causing the strange noises. Having the climate control unit and the battery replaced probably didn't cause the amp modules to fail. For replacement amps you can find them on the internet or at BOSE.COM
