Audio Systems: Speaker Problem, speaker enclosure, component system

Question
I have an Aiwa Mini component system. The problem is evertyime I increase the volume, the speaker seems to vibrate and the sound becomes non-audible, just like you strike a big drum. This only happens when the volume is increased. At lower volume its OK. Please help. Thank you.

Answer
Dear Jo,

There could be a couple of things going on. First, the speakers simply aren't made for high volumes, and what you're getting is the result of that weakness. Or, the woofers have become unseated inside the speaker enclosure, so when you drive them louder, they start to vibrate.

I'd open the enclosure and tighten the seating screws around the woofer.

If they still vibrate, the former is probably the issue.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,

Kevin
