The Cd Canger in my 1998 F-150 quit working the other day. I can hear the CDs going in and out and the numbers are flashing but no sound. It shuts off after trying to read them for a few sec. The changer is located on the back left panel behind the door. How do you remove it and am I going to have to remove the entire paneling? Do you know how to clean it and then reinstall? Also, do I need a special removal tool? Any information would help!! Thank You
I don't know if this helps but the # off the CD magazine is F57F-18C833-AB

Angel,
You shouldn't need any special tools, just a screw driver. The changer should come out by taking off the one panel and then removing the screws. As for cleaning, you can use a Qtip dampened with rubbing alcohol and gently clean the lens in the CD pick up unit.

Sorry Sir,
One more question. How do you remove the panel? I can't find anywhere that it's separated to pull at and there are no screws or anything. I've had 3 others take a look and everyone's as stumped as I am.
Which one panel? Is there more than one piece because it all looks as if it's connected? It's located on the bottom drivers side under the window. It's a three door Lariat. Thanks

Answer
Angel,
Most of these panels will pull away from the side supports. They are held in place with plastic push in fasteners. If you are not sure about removing these panels you may want to contact your local Ford dealer and ask for a print out of the removal instructions for the panels and of the CD changer.
