Audio Systems: Stereo equipment with Audio Output, rca line, rca stereo

Question
I am trying to find a cheap stereo product providing an output audio signal to my PC sound card to transfer to digital form. A combination of cassette, tuner and CD player would be nice. The best compromise solution for transferring balanced output signals is apparently to use a unit with RCA line-out jacks and adaptor cables.

However I can't find such a product. RCA audio outputs seem to be limited to high-end modular or professional audio equipment, not shelf stereos or boomboxes.

I've wasted too much time in stores and online searches, the output-jack features are hardly ever listed in specs. Is there an easier way to find what i need?

Answer
Dear Robert,

Virtually all A/V and some stereo receivers on today's market have a nifty set of outputs called "Pre Amp Out", which are pretty much the same function as a "Line Out". I'm using these days an Onkyo A/V receiver with seven (count 'em!) preamp out circuits.

The jacks are the normal RCA variety, and, yes, you're right: you need an RCA Stereo-to-mini jack adaptor to route the signal to your PC sound card.

Look for "Pre Amp Out" outputs, and you're in business.

BTW, these are rare on boomboxes and the all-in-one receiver/dual well tape player/CD changer/speakers box variety stereo. You'll need to find a regular receiver. If cheap is your watchword, Sony makes excellent products which start at $199 list--and are a lot less on the street.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,

Kevin
