Audio Systems: TV Audio, vcr dvd player, rooftop antenna

Question
I am interested in hooking up my tv to my stereo so that I can watch tv through the stereo speakers.  The stereo one of those 3 disk cd changers.  I was wondering how I can go about doing this; the tv has two connections for audio-in and none for audio-out.  Is it still possible to make the connection?
Thanks

Answer
Dear Pat,

I'm assuming you have a one-box, combination CD player/changer/receiver.

If your TV lacks an "audio out"--which are generally so badly underpowered that the signal's useless--what you need is a VCR through which to route your antenna. All VCRs  have "antenna in" and "antenna out" connections. That's how the signal gets from the tape player to the TV. Connect your signal lead (rooftop antenna, cable, satellite) to the "antenna in" on the VCR and the "antenna out" on the VCR to the antenna input on the TV. You'll need an extra length of coaxial cable to make that connection. You can get those at Radio Shack.

Then you connect the "audio out" of the VCR/DVD player to an auxiliary input (AUX will do) on your stereo, and you're in business. Depending on your signal input, you'll have to either change channels with the VCR as you change channels on the TV to get the TV sound OR use the VCR to change the channels on both OR set the VCR to Channel 3 or 4. Just turn on your stereo (to AUX of course) and the VCR when you want the sound from your TV to come through the stereo speakers.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,
