Audio Systems: Screeching sound from car stereo, factory radio, moderate level

Question     Hi. I have an '89 Sunbird. The radio made a "puck" sound for awhile and now it makes a loud screeching sound. If the radio is left on for a couple of minutes it stops and the radio plays. It seems as though I am loosing volume, I have to play on full volume to hear at a moderate level.
I have a digital photo of my system I can e-mail if that would help.

Please advise.

  if the radio is the original factory radio its time for a replacement, the unit has well exceeded the normal life range for moderate use, the problem sounds like an internal short inside the unit.. there is no quick or easy fix for this other than a replacement .. hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know
