Audio Systems: car radio, fuse panel, stock radio

Question
I have a 2002 dodge stratus that still has the stock radio and cassette as well as a 10 disc cd player that was installed later. Lately my radio and CD player have been completely losing power when I drive. The radio will completely lose power for a few seconds (all lights to the radio but to nothing else) then the power will come back, but there will be no sound. I can still change stations and from radio to CD mode, but sometimes the it has a delayed response. I have noticed that if I turn off my car completely and restart then everthing is fine. I have had no previous problems with my car and my CD player was professionally installed. Do have any suggestions on what the problem might be?

Answer
Jessica,
It sounds like your stereo has a defective connection either inside or in the power feed lines. Try this test, sitting in your drive way, turn on the stereo and tune in a station. with a good station playing, bang on the dash board and see if the stereo goes off. You should also tap around the area of the fuse panel/box to see if the fault is due from a connection at/near the fuse box.
