Audio Systems: ford aerostar rear radio control, ford aerostar, factory radio

Question
i installed a kenwood head unit in my 93 aerostar with rear radio controls. the speakers sound distorted and cut out at higher volumes. if i unplug the wiring harness from the rear control box the front speakers are fine, the rears do not work. if i plug the factory radio back in  the speakers sound fine, do i need to bypass or eliminate the rear control box, and if so, how do i do it?  thanks; Johnny

Answer
Johnny,

now it sounds like you used a wire harness adapter for your new headunit which wired into the new units harness and plugged back into the dash plug .. since your aerostar has the factory option of rear controls you might want to check back with either radio shack , circuit city ect.. where you purchased your adapter harness to see if they make a wire kit that re-uses the factory rear controls.. now if they dont i would recomment by-passing the rear control this can be fairly simple, you will need a few sets of speaker cable and you will want to re-run the cable directly from the head unit's harness to the rear speakers .. check out www.streetdreams.com/wires for some color code information that might help you out .. if you need anything else let me know

thanks
