Audio Systems: After market CD player blows tail light fuse, sony cd player, light fuse

Question
I have recently intalled a Sony CD player in my 1991 Mazda 323. All seemed well until I noticed that I didn't have any tail lights. I kept trying new fuses but they kept blowing. Then I noticed that the new CD player made a noise (security warning about leaving the faceplate on after vehicle shut off). I thought that it was odd that the CD player made noise when it doesn't have anything to do with the tail lights. I assumed that I had something hooked up wrong so I pulled the entire CD player. Now my tail lights work fine, but I can't enjoy my CD's. Before I try to install again, I am hoping for some sage advice. I believe that I was grounded correctly (black wire to frame of car) and all the speakers were working fine. Is there a chance that there could be more than one power source? The old CD player (that was stolen) seemed to work fine. I thought I hooked it up the same way. I am fishing here, please help.
Thanks
Scott

Answer
Scott,
The problem may be due to having the marker and or dimmer wires hooked up incorrectly. The only two power wires that you should have connected are the 12volt hot at all times and the 12volt switched with the ignition. make sure that you have these sources connected to your stereo and not one of the light circuit feeds. You may want to ask you local Mazda dealer if they will give you a copy/print out of the factory stereo wiring in the dash of your vehicle. If they won't do that try looking at the library for the car service books if they have them. If all else fails, you may need to purchase the repair book for your car to look at the wiring diagrams for the stereo connector.
