Audio Systems: Car Audio - no sound, 1991 honda prelude, honda prelude

Question
1991 Honda Prelude 2.0 SI AM/FM receiver & tape deck (OEM).

Radio has been working intermittantly for the last few years (no sound). Unit would come on while driving and then go off. Recently, no sound at all (radio or tape unit). All other functions seem to be working (station selection, scan/seek etc).

Honda P/N 39100-SF1-A100-M1
Ref No: CM3809A

Can this problem be easily repaired?
Likely component failure?
Recommended replacement unit?

Appreciate any assistance.

Answer
Stan,

most likly the problem is the OEM deck, most units dont last over 10 years so consider yourself lucky yours has held out.. the best solution, cost and performance wise is an aftermarket head unit , you can find one for your specific needs and what quality you want from 70-500 bucks depending on what you want.. be sure you purchase a dash install kit *which will provide you with exact instructions for the removal and replacement* and a wire harness adapter kit *which will wire into your new units harness then simply plug back into your factory plug* .. hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
