Dear Tom,
I have a 94 Corvette/Bose system that the CD player just stopped working. I rarly drive this car and the CD was OK last time I drove it. I took the stereo/CD apart and it all looks as new.
The disk won't go in unless I turn it on and off, the disk spins for a few seconds and stops. The disk won't eject unless I turn off the stereo. The display looks normal saying track 1 and there is no error message. Cassette and radio work fine.
Looking around the web it seems like this is a very common problem for GM/Bose CD players.
Answer -
randy,
Your CD player may have two problems. 1, the laser lense is dirty.  2, one of the load sensors is faulty.

Hi Tom,
Would the load sensors be the three LED's on the PCB at the left front side?
Is that the commom problem?
Thanks,
Randy

Answer
Randy,
Yes, they are the CD load in/out sensors. The problem with them is that they become weak and will not always respond when inserting a CD. Many CD players will use only two sensors, one to tell the motor to run and the second to signal that the CD was loaded afer the CD passes it. If replacing the LED's and photo transistors you will need the service manual to get the part numbers.
