Audio Systems: Surround Sound Trouble, protection circuits, volume level

Question
My Magnavox Surround Sound System Model #MFX450 keeps turning itself off once it gets to a volume level of below "20" or not even halfway turned up.  Do you know why this would be the case or what would cause this?  Thanks

Answer
Dear Andy,

Since the Magnavox MMX450 (not MFX, right?) puts out 80W per channel, there's little chance that you're running out of power unless you're playing at ear-splitting levels, the kind that literally shake walls and floors.

My guess is that there's a malfunction in thermal protection circuits which are reading a certain volume level as an overload and cutting off the signal. This kind of problem requires a visit to the repair shop. Sorry.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,

Kevin
