Tom, I have a 1991 Lincoln Town Car with the JBL premium sound system including a powered Sub.
The head unit is a Jensen but I apologize that I don't know the model number off hand.
The problem is that I had parked the car for about 5mths due to a leaky steering box, during this time I would go out occasionally to start the car and would usually listen to some music while letting the car run.
Everything was working fine before, but then I hadn't been out for a while so the battery went extremely dead. When I decided to put the car back on the road I charged the battery for about 6 to 8 hours straight and it would start but would not hold a charge for long periods, and has since been replaced with a new one.
I apologize for babbling and I don't know if any of this has anthing to do with my problem but I wanted to give you as much background info as possible. My problem is that once I got the car going again the stereo won't work! When you turn the unit on it appears to be working fine and when you push any of the buttons they appear to perform their functions accordingly but no sound comes out of the speakers at all, not even static! All of the associated fuses are fine.
I have an understanding of how electronics work but I think I just need some advice on where to start and how to go about it.
Thank You in advance for any help you can give.

John,
If you charged the battery while it was still hooked up to the batery terminals in your vehicle, that may be the cause of the no sound problem. If not, the amp in the stereo may have failed or the power supply to the external amp is not there!  Please give me the model number of your stereo so I can look at the service manual. If I have the manual I will give you some clues on what to look for.

The model number from the face of the unit is Jensen CD310X

Answer
John,
I looked at the service data for your stereo and the problem may be a defective amplifier. If you charged the battery while it was still connected to the terminals, the charger may have sent a charging surge into the stereo and damaged the audio output amp circuit/s. If you are using an external amplifier, that may be the cause of the no sound problem.
