Audio Systems: Honda Accord 2003 cd player, car stereo repair, honda dealership

Question
About 5 months after getting my new accord I started experiencing problems with my cd player. There were times where it would have problems loading or unloading a cd. Eventually I just hit the top of the dashboard (somewhat lightly)and everything was fine and the cd player started to operate as normal. :)

Now I have had my car about a year and yesterday the cd player quit once again. I can't get it to work at all now. I was somehow able to unload the cd player (it's a 6 disk changer) but now I cannot get it to load any cd's. You can hear it trying to cycle inside but it won't load. Just either says ERR or it defaults itself back to the radio. So I know I will probably need to get it fixed.

Since it's part of the radio system, it won't be covered under warranty. But is this something that I should take to the local Honda dealership to fix or can I find an outside place to fix the problem? Also I wouldn't even know where to begin looking to find a place to fix it if I should take it elsewhere.

Anything would help at this point! Thanks!

Answer
Kara,
Try contacting some local car stereo repair shops to ask if they repair the type of stereo for your car. If all possible do not take it to the dealer, they will only remove the radio and send it out for repair and charge you  a much more for doing so!. I can tell you from my experience that working on these in dash 6 disc changers is no picnic. On many of them I only needed a very small mechanical part to repair the changer, however small repair parts are not available and the whole CD deck/changer will need to be replaced.
