Audio Systems: ccar stereo problem, pioneer car stereo, alpine amp

Question
cody,  My question is that i had a pioneer car stereo and one day all the sound faded out but the bass through my mtx sub and alpine amp, at first it would fade out slowly but now it plays nothing but bass. So i thought it was my deck so i purchased a kenwood. and it does the same thing. so my question is what would cause the deck not to play anything but the bass? Any help would be greatly appreciated. monica

Answer
Monica,

doesnt sound like its the head unit, sounds like its your amp, but i'm curious if your amp is only running your sub, bass is all you want to go through the sub because other higher frequencies can damage your subwoofer, now if your entire system is affected by the bass,  and you have already swapped out the head unit as long as your amplifier doesnt power your entire system , i would take it to a trusted local shop to have them run some test because its a very odd problem that doesnt seem to be in the head unit .. but if your amp runs more than your subwoofer or if for some reason you have your sub pushing other sounds that bass, give alpine a call their tech line is toll free or you can drop them an email and describe the problem, they can give you some ideas into what it might be and if the amp might need some differnt adjustments and settings... also make sure on your amp your passive crossover and also your frequency adjustments are set for what you want LOW-nothing but bass 40-80mhz.. MID-low-mid range bass and some vocals 90-180.. HIGH - almost all vocals and high freq sounds 200+ .. hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
