Audio Systems: JVC CD/Tuner installation sound problem, jvc cd tuner, antenna booster

Question
Dear Cody, I installed a JVC radio into my 1991 volvo.  The CD works fantastically but the radio sounds like the speakers are underwater.  Is this a tuner problem?  Can it be repaired or do I have to buy a new radio?  Also the metra car installation kit for the upper dash style doesn't clip in to the dash as the OEM does... I just cannot make it fit... is this common?

Answer
Mike,

it could be a tuner problem , since the unit is new i would first take it back and have them give you a replacement this is the easiest and cheapest way to find out .. also make sure you purchased an antenna adapter to get a good secure fit with the antenna * some dont require one and some do so ask the local tech at your circuit city or radio shack* .. now if you get a new unit and still get bad AM/FM , try an antenna booster , usually around 20 dollars this simple wire in should fix the problem , although i would almost bet the problem is in the JVC unit, because most aftermarket units have great tuners over OEM .. now about the dash kit, give metra a call they should have an 800 number in the booklet .. have them double check that you have the right dash kit for your make and model .. and see if they have any tips since they are the experts at their kits .. hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
