Audio Systems: Car Stereo Signal Issues, solder connection, fm signal

Question
It seems that only the stereo power cuts out, i.e. the sound.  My stereo still responds to inputs (knobs, buttons, etc) but I have no sound.  When I say I do not receive an FM signal I mean that the text “FM” which is normally present when I have a strong signal does not exist.  If I try to play a tape, I still receive no sound.

If you still need more information, let me know.

Thanks,

Answer
Jared,
The problem with your stereo may be with the power distribution within the stereo on the circuit board. I would think that a defective solder connection is causing the no sound problem and the display problem. I have seen on many stereos that when the antenna/remote control wire is grounded out even for a split second, it will cause the switching transistor that controls the 12 volts to the remote wire and to the muting circuits to burn up. When this happens you will have no sound and possible a display problem.
